CJdropshipping Pricing: What an Order Really Costs

ARTICLE SUMMARY
CJdropshipping has a free core account, but delivered orders still carry product, shipping and sometimes extra service costs. Build a quote around the exact variant, destination and fulfillment arrangement before setting your retail price.

CJdropshipping’s core account is free; the order is not. Price the exact variant, eligible shipping to one address, and only the extra services your arrangement uses. Store payment, advertising and refunds sit outside CJ checkout but inside your margin.

CJ’s membership options, service-fee schedule and shipping-calculation workflow were checked September 23, 2026. They do not replace a current order quote. Confirm the checkout figures before setting a retail price.

01

The short answer: five amounts to separate

Start with the exact variant’s product charge and an eligible shipping route to the customer’s address. A free CJ account removes a required account subscription, not those two order costs. CJ’s fee explainer and service-fee schedule describe additional work, but the same fee does not apply to every arrangement.

Your order setup Costs to put in the quote
CJ catalog item, shipped on demand Exact variant price + eligible route. Confirm any requested packaging or extra service.
Your own goods or reserved stock at a warehouse Product acquisition + inbound movement + applicable receiving, storage and outbound work + last-mile route. Count each unit purchase once.
Either setup, with a paid membership Add the chosen subscription across a realistic number of completed orders; do not treat it as a mandatory per-order CJ fee.

Your store’s payment charges, customer acquisition, returns and refunds sit outside CJ’s invoice but inside your margin. The CJdropshipping review evaluates operational fit; the automation guide separates order syncing from physical fulfillment. Here, use the order setup that will actually fulfill your SKU.

02

What does the free plan include?

CJ’s membership page lists Free at $0 per month with five daily sourcing requests and basic listing, store authorization and order-monitoring functions. It currently displays Plus at $15.99, Prime at $19.99 and Advanced at $59.99 monthly, with higher sourcing allowances and other advertised benefits. Check the current benefits at signup.

Do not buy a plan to solve an order problem it does not solve. A paid tier does not include the product or freight, and it does not make an ineligible route available. If a higher sourcing limit is useful, $19.99 spread across 80 completed orders is about $0.25 each; across 300 it is about $0.07. At lower actual volume, the per-order allocation rises. Decide from the work the plan saves, then use the subscription only in the orders that support that monthly decision.

03

Product price is only the first line

Save the quote against the item code, variant, quantity and origin warehouse. A different size, color, bundle or included accessory can change both the item charge and the parcel you must ship. A similar photograph is not an approved substitute.

For a sourced item, send CJ the specification and destination. Its pricing FAQ says a Taobao or 1688 purchase can add a percentage to CJ’s final product price. That describes a sourcing case, not a markup for every catalog item. Ask whether the offered unit price already includes that work.

Put one question on the quote: “For this variant and quantity, what is payable at checkout, and which services are included?” Save the dated answer. A later factory or specification change requires fresh product approval and pricing.

04

Calculate shipping for the actual destination

CJ documents three shipping checks: the calculator, the product route selector and the order-processing screen. The last is the closest to your actual order. Availability can change with item attributes, weight, value and destination, as CJ’s shipping FAQ explains.

Before comparing routes, enter the origin warehouse, destination postal code, exact variant and quantity, finished parcel weight and dimensions. Then record the route, quoted amount, processing basis and delivery estimate. If stock must first move to an overseas warehouse, include that inbound movement separately from last-mile delivery. A carrier estimate does not include an item that is still being sourced.

Check taxes, duties, remote-area surcharges and exceptional handling separately; a line labeled “shipping” does not prove they are included. If the cheapest route cannot carry the item or misses your stated delivery promise, use an eligible route instead. The shipping-methods guide goes deeper on route selection, while the profit-margin guide covers the business-wide margin.

05

When do service and warehouse fees apply?

Use CJ’s service-fee schedule only for the warehouse and work in your arrangement. Inbound handling, labels, storage and outbound work may apply to merchant-supplied or reserved stock; last-mile freight is separate. For an ordinary catalog order, confirm what the displayed product amount already includes before adding another fee.

For example, 200 branded units sent from your factory need first-mile movement, receiving and storage before any customer order ships. Allocate prepaid freight and receiving over a realistic sellable quantity, then add per-order work and delivery. The unsold units tie up cash; they are not a second product purchase in the margin calculation.

CJ’s private-inventory guidance covers reservations and warehouse choice. Record the unit purchase once and each distinct transfer or service once. If the warehouse or stock owner changes, request a new fee breakdown.

06

Custom packaging changes the cost and the promise

CJ’s custom-packaging FAQ says existing package quotations are visible in its custom-packaging area and include printing, with bulk or photo requests handled through an agent or support. Price the specific box, insert or label and check whether it must be purchased in advance.

A product in stock is not necessarily ready for a branded shipment. If 100 units are available but only 25 approved boxes have arrived, at most 25 orders can ship in the promised box without replenishment. Decide whether the remaining orders should wait or use an agreed unbranded pack. Record that rule before selling branded presentation as a feature.

Packaging can also change parcel dimensions and chargeable weight. Recalculate freight using the finished pack, not the bare item. The packaging guide covers how to approve the physical presentation and protect the item; this pricing article focuses on what it does to the order total.

07

A worked margin example, with assumptions exposed

Consider a $49 retail sale. Assume the customer pays no separate shipping charge, sales tax is outside revenue, and there is no CJ subscription or warehouse service on this order. These figures are hypothetical, not CJ prices:

  • Revenue excluding sales tax: $49.00
  • Product: −$15.00
  • Eligible shipping route: −$8.50
  • Branded packaging: −$0.80
  • Payment processing: −$1.70
  • Customer acquisition: −$12.00
  • Refund/replacement reserve: −$2.00
  • Remaining before fixed overhead and income tax: $9.00

The product-to-retail gap is $34, but it would be misleading to call that profit. If the real route costs $11.50 instead of $8.50, the remaining amount becomes $6.00. If a return also requires a replacement, the outcome depends on the actual refund and recovery cost; the $2 reserve is only a planning allowance. Once actual losses are recorded, replace the allowance rather than counting both.

Also check the money needed before customer payouts arrive. Use the same hypothetical $15 item, $8.50 route and $0.80 packaging; these are teaching inputs, not a CJ quote.

Ten orders before payout · cash planning example

Supplier purchase: if all three charges are payable before dispatch, ten orders require 10 × ($15 + $8.50 + $0.80) = $243. Confirm the actual payment timing for your arrangement.

Refund room: holding $49 for one full customer refund makes $292 available cash before ads, processor charges, tax and other bills. That held money is not another expense; the earlier $2 allowance estimates remedies for contribution planning.

If the route changes: replacing $8.50 with $11.50 raises ten supplier payments to $273 and the same refund buffer to $322. A store can have a positive planned contribution and still lack enough cash to place its orders.

For stocked goods, add the allocated first-mile and applicable warehouse work to the order analysis, but do not buy the product twice on paper. To compare a $15.99 monthly membership, spread it across expected completed orders for the period and test a lower-volume month too. The unit economics guide shows how these variable and fixed costs behave as volume changes.

08

Get a quote you can compare and repeat

Ask for a single order scenario rather than “your best price.” Send CJ this compact brief:

Exact product link and variant; approved specification or sample reference; order quantity; origin warehouse; destination country and postal code; required packaging; acceptable delivery promise; whether stock is CJ catalog, reserved inventory or your own supplied goods.

Request the product amount, applicable service lines, packaging, eligible shipping methods and estimated dispatch basis. Ask which taxes or import charges are included, whether the amounts change with quantity, and how long the quote is valid. For a stocked route, ask for the transfer and receiving costs as a separate estimate. Save the screen or written quote with its date.

When comparing another provider, give both the same specification and destination. An item at $13 from one source and $15 from CJ is not a $2 saving if the first quote omits packaging, has a less usable delivery route or describes a different variant. The supplier comparison guide offers a broader vendor-selection framework.

09

Reprice when an order assumption changes

Recheck the quote when one of the inputs behind it changes:

  • Product: new supplier, material, bundle or variant.
  • Parcel and route: larger finished pack, different warehouse, shipping method or destination mix.
  • Money and promise: currency shift, new delivery promise or a different paid service.

For a small run of completed orders, compare the actual product charge, freight, extras, payment fees and unrecovered exceptions with your estimate. Find the line that moved before seeking a lower factory price; a smaller box or an eligible route may matter more. Keep the free tier while it meets your workload, and scale only when the delivered cost supports your retail offer.

10

Frequently asked questions

Is a paid CJ membership required for every order?

The reviewed membership page includes a free core account. Product and eligible shipping still cost money. Choose a paid tier only for benefits your workload needs, confirm the account offer and treat the subscription separately from the supplier order.

Should I add every warehouse fee to a catalog order?

No. Identify the stock owner, warehouse and work in your actual arrangement, then ask which charges are already included. A reserved or merchant-supplied batch can have inbound and storage costs that do not describe an ordinary catalog purchase. Count each purchase and service once.

Is the shipping calculator enough to set my selling price?

Use it for an initial route check, then compare the exact variant, address, finished parcel and extra services with the order-processing quote. Verify dispatch basis and included import charges. Packaging or route changes can alter both the bill and your delivery promise.
